Whoopi and Elisabeth Hasselbeck got into it recently on The View over use of the N-word. You can see the video of the exchange on Us Magazine. Elisabeth, of course, cries, wearing her white guilt on her sleeve. I love The View and once Rosie joined I started watching it frequently. I did indeed see the spat between Rosie and Elisabeth. It was rough, and it was synechdochic of the state our country is in between left and right, I think. The gossip is that Whoopi is going to take Rosie’s place. That’s exciting news.

The #1 word of the year is Truthiness, as voted on by the Merriam-Webster online community. The word comes from Stephen Colbert, of course. Merriam-Webster defines truthiness as: 1 : “truth that comes from the gut, not books” (Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” October 2005) 2 : “the quality of preferring concepts or facts one wishes to be true, rather than concepts or facts known to be true” (American Dialect Society, January 2006).

I spent part of today cleaning out my clothes of old clothes. Tomorrow I am going to go through my drawers. A sort of purging, I guess you could say. I don’t know what to do with these clothes, since most of them are good. They aren’t rags or torn or stained. They are just clothes that I don’t wear anymore for a variety of reasons. Watch this. It’s Michelle Malkin’s response to Rosie’s “Ching Chong Chinese” on The View, which I posted about a while back. Ok, Ok, I know it’s Michelle Malkin, but it makes a great point. Of course, when you do something racist like Rosie did, you leave yourself open to this kind of valid response. It’s unfortunate that Rosie is fodder for someone in the right wing like Michelle. Just because Malkin is ultra-conservative, doesn’t mean she cannot launch these criticisms. I hate when this kind of thing happens, because it means people like Malkin can accuse you of hypocrisy. That just sucks.

In my deepest disappointment, Rosie O’Donnell’s racist “Ching Chong Chinese” on the View.  I’ve been liking her co-hosting stint lately, until this. I don’t know why she succumbed to this bit of racism, but I guess she didn’t know any better. It’s an example of white obliviousness when white people who are generally progressive make jokes about immigrant accents by exaggerating and mimicking them. There’s no excuse for this behavior, especially when it’s televised for the world to see:

Hype around a new summer replacement show called The Days attracted me to the interesting storyline, so I watched the first twenty minutes of the show. Promoted as unique, edge, and unexplored, the show was disturbingly flat. It’s failure is an example of postmodern hyperbole in contemporary panic culture.
