“She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone,” said this McCain adviser. “She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.”
“Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom.”
If this were a Hillary quote, I’d be livid. I would take it as a sexist slam against her solid leadership skills. But when I heard it about Sarah Palin, all I did was snicker, and take it as an excellent characterization of someone with no leadership skills at all. She’s so not ready to be president.
The article makes it a point to talk about other vice-presidential candidates who were off message and “going rogue” too, which makes the Sarah Palin commentary a little more palatable as non-sexist.
There’s a great blog at Salon that notes the sexism behind the ensing blame-game:
“Still, it’s hard not to notice that a woman is being blamed and shamed yet again, when the real screw-up here is McCain himself, who presided over possibly the worst V.P. pick in modern history…”
