Peaches still makes the occasional appearance in Eyebeam. If you go to the site http://www.eyebeam.com/ (all flash: don't try this with an iPhone, iPod, or iPad) and click on the icon with her face you'll get the entire run of Peaches, Queen of the Universe (there are various links to different vintages of Eyebeam as well). For the most recent strips you'll have to do what I do: go to The Austin Chronicle's website at http://www.austinchronicle.com/ and either click on the E-Edition for the current issue or click on their link to the Archives and work your way backwards through the E-Editions--Eyebeam is usually about 12 pages from the end of each issue. Glad I could help!

I used Amusing Ourselves To Death in a class I taught in the early '90s, PHIL 102: "Introduction to Reasoning & Critical Thinking", alongside Howard Kahane's Logic & Contemporary Rhetoric. Postman's book changed the way I thought about how people absorbed and the news (now called: "content") and what they made of it.

The chapter "The Typographic Mind" was—by far—the most illuminating, and I would videotape both TV nightly news stories and broadcast presidential debates, and watch them with my students while holding a stopwatch. Illuminating.

I was so impressed by Postman's thesis and Kahane's protocols that I went on to obtain a Master's Degree in journalism and plan to research a possible curriculum I am calling "Critical Journalism," with Postman's work underlying a great deal of what I develop.

Good work work with your own projects.

What if you could steal a loaf of bread by leaving an exact copy in its place? It's interesting how quickly people start talking about copying as stealing. Have you seen Don't Copy that Floppy? As you can probably guess from the name, it's an anti-pirating video from the 90s. When you see the video you'll really be able to tell it was made in the 90s. Another version was made in 2009, and the contrast between the two is very interesting. The first video focuses on all the creative work involved in creating games and suggests that one day the kids in the video might want to create games for a living, too. The first video a way of thinking about copyright that used be much more prevalent: copyright protects the economic interests of the creator, which creates incentives for creativity. I think people create for many different reasons, but whatever. The 2009 version treats the kids as consumers, not creators, and takes a much more hardline law-and-order approach to piracy. The kids in this video are sure to go to jail if they don't straighten up.

One more video: Copying Is Not Theft

Completely in on the "sticky" comment. And I keep short stories and anecdotes by the laptop so that while I'm waiting for the unstick I can read sententiae. How much of my life have I whittled away during these moments? It's absolutely stultifying.

I've watched this show consistently since the first episode begun during September of 1993 and i also have never ever been disappointed. The writing, the fantastic team (especially Gillian Anderson together with Mitch Pileggi), the fantastic plots and also the terrific everything made me enjoy the past 9 years. Even though David Duchovny decide to take his leave from the show, Chris Carter was confident what to do in working with the talent of such actors as Robert Patrick & Annabeth Gish. This particular show continues to impress society and i'm confident it had until it's very last show. I would like to thank Chris Carter and the total X-Files team for providing me 9 years of enjoyment on Weekend evenings. It's been one heck of a program, and i am without doubt it will always end up loved.

I can see why you would think that way given the atrocious errors in your post. A sign is not a typo. A typo occurs when one's fingers move so fast or clumsily on the keyboard that an error occurs. A typo occurs when one is TYPING. These are not mechanical errors on these signs. They are errors of ignorance and stupidity.

It is not arrogance to point out the hypocrisy in demanding an English-only country from "Americans" who do not have literacy in English. (Literacy, for your edification, means the ability to read and write.)

I am judgmental, yes. There is nothing wrong with making judgments about the rightness and wrongness of something.

I never claimed to be tolerant. I am intolerant of oppression, fascism, injustice, and disparity. I do support a diversity of opinions, but supporting that doesn't mean approving everyone's ideas. If someone came up to me and told me there was an alien spaceship in my yard, I could support them by listening to them, evaluating the validity of what they say, and then challenging its accuracy. That is the nature of democracy. Democracy is not about blind adherence to anything goes and to each his or her own truth. Democracy is about reasonable deliberation based on critical thinking, something which you clearly can't do.

I recognize that this is my forum and I can say anything I want with impunity. But I'm still publishing your post. That's democracy in action.

At university orientation day, one of the IT big heads remarked, 'by the end of your degree you should be able to design a better system than blackboard.' A bigger head, in a better suit then replies, 'by the end of your first week you should be able to design a better system than blackboard.'

*PS....Correcting anyone's spelling or any other typing errors is hardly ON TOPIC and is just petty & arrogant to protect your ego. Opps...more judgemental adjectives of your views or actions. Your view of denigate conveniently stops all discussion on important topics. Not very tollerant, american, or supporting diversity of opinions.
