Randomly Musing

I haven’t randomly mused in some time. Here are my neuronic firings for the day:

1. I just learned (behind the loop again) that the Lilith Fair is returning! I am /so/ psyched about this. I soooo want to go with Willow. It would be like the ultimate in women’s studies kismet to do that. I am definitely driving to Dallas for this.

2. Assessment still sucks.

3. I’m really enamored with the One Sentence website. I think I am going to steal the concept and incorporate it into classes next semester.

4. My lust for kd lang has returned with vigor. I’m not entirely sure why this has happened.

5. The latest Rolling Stone has a retrospective on Madonna. I am offended by it. I have always thought Madonna was beautiful. Many people have disagreed with me, of course. But I stick to my guns on this point. Lately, though, the has treated her almost like a clown. The only explanation I can find is that she’s over 50. Fifty year old women shouldn’t prance around on a stage and spread their legs. It’s unbecoming. Rolling Stone has frequently been a participant in this mistreatment even though they’ve helped turn her into an icon.  Their pictures often deliberately show her in an unflattering light. In this retrospective, they do put a handful of pictures of her in her 50s, but they fill the pages with the youthful, beautiful Madonna of the 80s and early 90s. My first reaction to the “spread” (word choice, huh…) was to be reminded of how beautiful and photogenic she was. My second reaction was that she’s not aging well, at least in most of the close ups I’ve seen of her. She looks a little haggard. Is she doing botox and facelifts and such? I don’t really think so. My third… well, wtf does “aging well” mean? So I flipped the magazine closed and stared for a moment at the stunning twenty year old Madonna on the cover. When I tossed the magazine down I got an image of the cover with the hotness who is Johnny Depp and… wait for it… his inspiration, Keith Richards.  Now there’s haggard. HEY, WAIT A MINUTE! Isn’t it unseemly for a 65 year old man to prance around on the stage? Why is Rolling Stone filling its pages with young, hot women and old, scraggly men. Why isn’t the amazingly fit, dynamic, mature Madonna on the cover while the bag-of-bones Keith Richards -is-?  DOUBLE STANDARD, ANYONE? Ok, this is not news. No. Even still, Madonna was ..-is-..fucking beautiful.

6. According to facebook posts, people are getting google wave invites. I requested one months ago before most people I know on facebook even -heard- about it.  I feel left out and personally betrayed.

7. I haven’t looked at HuffPo in weeks. It feels good.

8. I still hate assessments. (I said that, yes?)

Ok, eight random thoughts are enough for now.
