At least one conservative claims Netscape News social bookmarking has an obvious liberal bias, which has made the front page of today’s Netscape news. Personally I agree, which is probably why I end up drifting there.
Ironically CRTNET (a discussion list for rhetoric/communication types that is popular in my field) is going through a similar issue where conservatives feel that they are marginalized and silenced because they are not the majority opinion and CRTNET has a liberal bias. This has been an ongoing discussion for years on CRTNET but it has come to a head with a task force called to make recommendations about how to handle the so-called bias. They recommend shifting discussion to an external site. It reminds me of what happened at LSU with one of the students who put up a fit that there was too much of a liberal bias on the department’s listserv, it was unprofessional, it was unnecessary discussion and he was angry that he had to put up with it. So, several people made a second list serv that was more informal to continue those conversations. And guess what. He subscribed to it anyway.
