Well, this is the second time that I’ve written this post. The electricity has gone out in our house approximately 5 times today. I’m surprised my computer hasn’t gotten fried.

For those of you who are keeping up with my blog (the three or four of you that are left), I have accepted a position at BRCC starting in the Spring. It is a step down from Research I and a step up from being unemployed. As you can see, I still suffer the Research I snobbery without the props to do it. OTOH, I can’t help that I’m so jaded about doing research, though. It’s just not in me. And so much of it is dreck. I’m such a hypocrite. There’s a lesson here for me to learn, I am sure. I also hope that there will be opportunity for professional development.

Ann Coulter on Nancy Pelosi

This Ann Coulter article really pissed me off. I really don’t like Ann Coulter — now there’s a surprise! In any event, in this article she is being critical of how people around the country are gushing because Nancy Pelosi will be the first woman speaker of the house. Her main point is that we should be past these politically correct milestones. Her secondary point, which is to show how ridiculous all the uproar is, demonstrates that Bush has appointed the most diverse cabinet ever. She calls it the Benetton-ad presidency. *eyeroll*

Now what exactly pisses me off about this article is really hard to articulate, so that’s why I’m blogging about it. For me, it goes back to Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas politics. Clarence Thomas was appointed by the right wing administration precisely because he was black, but his politics were neo_con as the authors in Race-ing Justice, [...]

Jesus Camp

Steve and I went to see the movie Jesus Camp yesterday. It was very scary how the neo-con evangelicals brainwash their kids into being soldiers for Jesus. They even pray over a cardboard effigy of George Bush, praying for Jesus to help Bush lead us to a right wing, neo-con, brainwashed country. I don’t really think George Bush is God’s representative on earth. If anything, he’s a false prophet bringing the apocalypse closer, which I suppose most Evangelicals think is a great thing. The movie was very disturbing on a number of levels, not the least of which was the fight Steve and I had afterward. Steve considers me to be a “whackjob liberal” whereas he considers the people in the film to be relatively harmless. Of course, they were praying in tongues and rolling around on the floor and -I’m- the whackjob.
