Listening: _A 1960s Christmas_
I confess! I get most of my news from Netscape. I hated their new social bookmarking format when they first posted it, but now I am used to it. I still don’t like it, but I understand it. I decided to join Netscape when they brought Wil Wheaton on board. I’m not really sure why. I think it’s because I like to click on the little vote or sink buttons. It makes me feel like I’m participating in some way, even though it’s a very meaningless, passive sort of participation.
From Human Events, the national conservative weekly since 1944, comes an article called Running Against the Right Hillary. In one of the most bizarre perceptions of Hillary that I think I’ve ever read, this article divides Hillary into two candidates. The senator, who the author believes will be easy to beat, and the media darling first lady, who the author believes will be impossible to beat.
If we run against Hillary Clinton as the former first lady, if we run against her as the wife of Bill Clinton, if we run against the cherished darling of the media who spent eight years all but canonizing her as America’s patron saint, she’ll win.
What the fuck? _Since When_ has Hillary been America’s patron saint. She was lambasted regularly by the media during Bill’s tenure, and Hillary-hating became one of America’s favorite pasttimes. What planet are these guys from.
The article also pretty much dismisses Barack Obama as a potential candidate, predicting he will fall before the “Clinton Attack Machine.” Curiously enough, they refer to Obama as Barack Hussein Obama. This is something I am going to have to start tracking. Is there a right and left wing difference in how he is named in the press, as I suspect?
On George Bush, from another article in The Independent that I surfed off of Netscape (it’s a very old article; I don’t know why it’s surfacing now):
President George Bush has claimed he was told by God to invade Iraq and attack Osama bin Laden’s stronghold of Afghanistan as part of a divine mission to bring peace to the Middle East, security for Israel, and a state for the Palestinians.
This man is certifiably crazy.
