I watched Spartacus on hi-def tonight. My husband was completely oblivious during the oysters or snails scene, which made me chuckle. Wikipedia has a nice entry on Spartacus. The entry explains that Anthony Hopkins dubbed Olivier’s lines when the film was remastered to include the Oysters or Snails scene with Tony Curtis.

I told Congresswoman Pelosi that I look forward to working with her and her colleagues to find common ground in the next two years. As the majority party in the House of Representatives, they recognize that in their new role they now have greater responsibilities. And in my first act of bipartisan outreach since the election, I shared with her the names of some Republican interior decorators who can help her pick out the new drapes in her new offices.

This Ann Coulter article really pissed me off. She criticizes how people around the country are gushing because Nancy Pelosi will be the first woman speaker of the house. Her main point is that we should be past these politically correct milestones. Her secondary point, which is to show how ridiculous all the uproar is, demonstrates that Bush has appointed the most diverse cabinet ever. She calls it the Benetton-ad presidency. *eyeroll* Now what exactly angers me about this article is hard to articulate, so that’s why I’m blogging about it. For me, it goes back to Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas politics. Clarence Thomas was appointedRead More →

I saw the movie Jesus Camp yesterday. It depicts Evangelicals teaching their kids to be soldiers for Jesus. They even pray over a cardboard effigy of George Bush, asking for Jesus to help Bush lead us to a right wing country. George Bush is not God’s representative on earth. If anything, he’s a false prophet bringing the apocalypse closer, which I suppose most Evangelicals think is a great thing. Thankfully, Jesus Camp has closed down. Of course, the scandal with Ted Haggard, who is featured in the film, might have had something to do with the camp closing. Here’s Jon Daily on Ted Haggard.

The True Majority is a progressive, activist organization. They are part of the Mandate for Peace along with Code Pink. One of the groups supporting the Mandate for Peace is the Iraq Veterans Against the War. Anyway, given my early childhood history with the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, I am interested to learn about the IVAW. The IVAW seems to be small right now, but hopefully since it’s now permissible to disapprove of the war, the group will grow. They have a great list of reasons to be against the war: http://www.ivaw.org/faq. They also provide a rationale for immediate withdrawal. It’s an interesting read.
