First Day of the Summer Institute

Well, tomorrow is the first day of Teach Baton Rouge’s summer institute. I’m anxious about it. I’m kinda bummed that today is my last day of freedom, but I’m also kinda bored, so in the end it’s all a wash.

I have always been highly conscious of complaining about my limited time to people who have to work from 8-5 and get only 2 weeks vacation time. Now I’m one of those people. 7-4. 8-5. Whatever. The whole thing is a little daunting. It’s been ages since I’ve had to show up anywhere for days on end wearing a game face. This whole M-F schedule has got me a little worried. Can I do it? We’ll just have to wait and see.

They say new teachers sometimes spend 75 hours a week working. Hopefully I have enough under my belt and my skills are transferrable, so that I don’t need to spend that time.

*sigh*

remember when you used to bring Willow to Issues in Feminism class? that was teaching…

working with grade school aged children, it’s all about making learning fun and challenging. of course, you can’t say f**c with them, but… it may take time, but you’ll transition wonderfully. you have many years worth of students to back that up. we believe in you…
