An email that made my day

Hello,

I am a former Women’s Studies student of yours from USF (class of ’98). I doubt that you would remember me nor the story to follow but, I came across your website after talking to Sandy a few months ago and thought I would send you a note. I am a student at … in New York and a classmate (again) of …. After a few years of doing anti-poverty work for the United Methodist Church I returned to graduate school to study feminist ethics and theology.

I actually just wanted to thank you for the challenge. I took a few of your classes however, in a summer class I think it was Feminism in America, you really struck a chord with me one day that I don’t think I really grasped until recently. We were talking about Absolute Truth and you were pushing me in front of the class to really deal with whether or not absolute truth even existed. I’m not sure I took away exactly what you intended however, it did make me question. Tonight, I think I had an aha moment and ten years ago you had a part in that so thanks. I like to make it a point to thank those that I include (not by name of course) in a sermon, or speaking engagement and tonight that challenge all those years ago brought me full circle.

I have actually thought of USF and your classes fairly frequently recently. [My school] is well to say the least a little different that what I was used to at least academically. To be quite honest I am just not used to lecture halls, male teachers, and exams in blue books to be honest until midterms last semester I didn’t even know what a blue book was. It has definitely helped me to appreciate your holistic learning approach it is rare and makes all the difference.

I just thought you might like to hear thanks from an old student.
